Chair imagined, for uncertain times

Q. What is your present state of mind?

Andreas and Steven:

Q. Tell us about your piece from the exhibit
Andreas & Steven: Two half tube chair or “Chair, for uncertain times” is a tube cut in the middle lengthwise then again cut transversal and finally the two pieces are put together to create a balanced seating unit. At first sight the piece looks like it shouldn’t stand. Especially viewed under specific viewing angles it makes no sense in terms statics. But the lengths of the half tubes and the cut angles are carefully selected to create a balanced and surprisingly stable object.

Q. What does it mean to create or be creative at a time of uncertainty?
Andreas & Steven: Uncertainty is one of life’s fundamental characteristics. We recently watched a documentary series called “One Strange Rock” created by talented Darren Aronofsky where astronauts tell the story of Earth through unique perspective. Realizing the greater context of Earth’s life gives you a whole new concept to the word ‘uncertainty’ and beautifully illustrates the greater necessity and creativity of ‘uncertainty’. So being creative in a time of uncertainty means literally everything to us.
